This is a great tool for all of you moms out there like me who have no clue about all this video game madness! My boys are still young but they already have their little educational handhelds and I even allowed them to get a Wii system. I have tried my hand at a few of the games…but let’s just say I am not quite a pro–tee hee! I know in order to make sure my boys stick with the stuff that is appropriate, I have to educate myself on what to look for before I spend my money on those games.

Donate Your Used Christmas Cards

Instead of tossing your used Christmas cards, donate them to St Jude’s!
Operated by Kids, Corp., a program for the children at St. Jude’s Ranch to learn entrepreneurship skills, the children participate in making the new cards by removing the front and attaching a new back. The result is a beautiful new card made by the children and volunteers. The benefits are two-fold: customers receive “green” holiday cards for use and the children receive payment for their work and learn the benefits and importance of “going green”.
The ongoing support for the Recycled Card Program has been overwhelming! The Program grew and soon we were receiving over one million cards. We have since redesigned the process to more efficiently manage the increased production from the increased volume and we welcome your submissions!

Voluntary Similac Formula Recall

I have received a bunch of emails about the voluntary Similac recall. Here is the info from the site:
Abbott is initiating a proactive, voluntary recall of certain Similac-brand, powder infant formulas. Abbott is recalling these products following an internal quality review, which detected the remote possibility of the presence of a small common beetle in the product produced in one production area in a single manufacturing facility. The United States Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA) has determined that while the formula containing these beetles poses no immediate health risk, there is a possibility that infants who consume formula containing the beetles or their larvae, could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and refusal to eat as a result of small insect parts irritating the GI tract. If these symptoms persist for more than a few days, a physician should be consulted.
The recall of these powder infant formulas includes:
- Certain Similac powder product lines offered in plastic containers.
- Certain Similac powder product lines offered in 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans
To immediately find out if the product in your possession is included in this recall, parents and caregivers should visit THIS site, and type in their lot number to determine if their product is affected, or call (800) 986-8850.
No Abbott liquid infant formulas are impacted. Products not involved in the recall include all Abbott Nutrition liquid ready-to-feed and concentrated infant formulas and all powder and liquid specialty formulas, such as Similac Expert Care™ Alimentum®, Elecare ®, Similac Expert Care™ Neosure ®, Similac® Human Milk Fortifier, and metabolic formulas for inherited disorders.
