This is because instead of taking 50 cents off of each item, they take $5.00 off of the total. So according to the receipt, each Lifewater costs .99. So you "pay" .99 for the first one and get the second .99 bottle free. Then, when the $5.00 comes off at the end, you have paid nothing. I'm using them to fill the gaps to get to multiples of 10 items. I'm doing the same thing with Smartwater and Vitamin Water.
